6 Best Luxury Hotels in Mauritius
Mauritius is famous for its pristine white-sand beaches. Here is our choice of top-ranked hotels for your Superyacht guests to visit, whilst cruising Mauritius.

Mauritius leapt onto the world stage in just the last 30 years. It’s rapidly gone from being a virtually unknown speck of volcanic rock in the Indian Ocean to one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in the world. Mauritius is now on the radar of the more adventurous Superyachts afloat.
It’s not hard to see why as it’s the archetype of the iconic tropical escape – white-sand beaches gently lapped by glittering seas, all under a tropical sun, shining out of a clear blue sky.
Given the island nation’s tiny size, it’s not that surprising that it’s considered a luxury destination. There just wouldn’t be the space for mass budget tourism. Nowhere better showcases the luxury available on Mauritius than its finest hotels, of which these are the six best.
We know that a cruise itinerary is always better to have some five-star resort and spa options available to guests. Thus said, here is our current guide to the best on offer.
Zilwa Attitude
Zilwa is a family-friendly four-star resort on the outskirts of Calodyne, on the north coast of Mauritius. It has a rustic design, inspired by old seaside bungalows and the traditional homes of the locals. Even the name ‘Zilwa’ comes from the local word for ‘islander’.
However, the attractions and facilities of the hotel are far from old-school. The 214 rooms are stylish and comfortable, with a standard suite of modern amenities. There are also five restaurants, four swimming pools and a spa to enjoy.
There’s a wealth of activities you can enjoy with your loved one or with family at Zilwa. These include stand-up paddle boarding, cooking classes and evening dances. There are also day trips available to some of the uninhabited islands just off the coast.
Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort
Down on the southwestern coast of Mauritius, Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort is a five-star property that really lives up to its name. The ‘heritage’ bit harks back to 19th century, when the island nation was a part of the British Empire. The ‘wellness’ bit marks it as the first resorts of its kind on the island, boasting a range of wellbeing and holistic experiences. The ‘golf’ bit is for the 18-hole championship course that’s part of the resort.
The hotel has 158 suites which have that distinctive colonial look, though with a few modern lines in some of the furniture. There are also 12 restaurants to choose from, serving anything from local Mauritian cuisine to Japanese and British.
The Heritage Golf Course is known as the best in the Indian Ocean and staying at Heritage Le Telfair gives you full and unlimited access to it. The spa is similarly exceptional, spanning an extraordinary 2,500 sq m.
Tropical Attitude
Tropical Attitude is only a three-star place, yet still earns a place among the best luxury hotels in Mauritius. With only 58 rooms, it’s a small, boutique place in a quiet corner of the island’s east coast. To help maintain the quiet, it’s an adults-only hotel.
There’s an emphasis on being authentic in all of the Attitude hotels, and Tropic Attitude certainly showcases its authentic design and cuisine – particularly at the toes-in-the-sand Kot Nou restaurant. Using the Otenik Discovery Geolocation App, you can also go exploring and find some authentic local Mauritian secrets nearby, too.
Tui Sensimar Lagoon Mauritius, Anse la Raie
Not far from Zilwa Attitude, on Mauritius’ north coast, Tui Sensimar is almost the exact opposite in terms of its atmosphere. An adult-only four-star resort, it’s very popular with couples and honeymooners, not least for its romantic beach dinners.
The 182 rooms each have an airy, modern look which spreads out into the resort itself, including the four spa treatment rooms and the three swimming pools. Some of the excursions and activities you can enjoy while staying all-inclusive include kite-surfing, scuba diving or setting sale on the resort’s own catamaran.
Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort
Neighbouring the Heritage Le Telfair, Awali goes for a more African theme. The decor is big on ebony tribal masks and safari-print furnishings, with some of the evening entertainments matching the theme. However, just like its sister hotel, Awali is a five-star place in both its facilities and its service.
It’s all about the experience at this all-inclusive resort, with a first-class spa and plenty of excursions available. While it is a family-friendly spot, there’s enough resort for everyone and there are sections – including a pool – where the kids are kept out, so you can find both a fun and friendly atmosphere and serene solitude, depending on how you’re feeling.
Veranda Paul et Virginie
Veranda Paul et Virginie really specialises in romantic stays, making it another big hit with couples and honeymooners visiting Mauritius. The four-star hotel has a Garden of Eden sort of look to it – heavy on the greenery and private little spaces for you to be tempted, including a fantastic restaurant on the picturesque jetty.
Features to look out for include the infinity pool overlooking the sea, a sunken bar and a shisha corner, all providing perfect chill-out spaces. If that’s not enough for you, check out the double treatment rooms at the spa, which open out onto a tropical garden – the ultimate relaxation spot.
