The Nautilus Maldives aims to redefine luxury

The Nautilus Maldives is set to become of the most luxurious resorts in the world when it opens for guests in November 2018, with bookings already being taken. Occupying a tiny uninhabited tropical island, it has been expressly designed to help visitors feel absolutely at home and at ease throughout their stay.

The 26-room resort is on the privately-owned island of Thiladhoo, in the Baa atoll of The Maldives. Right in the heart of a UNESCO biosphere reserve, the island is a mere 250m in diameter, with a dense tropical jungle and a rich coral reef just metres from pristine white-sand beaches. The resort itself is designed from the personal vision of Maldivian entrepreneur Dr I U Maniku, who has over 30 years of experience in hospitality, with feathers like Baros Maldives and Milaidhoo in his cap.

Of the 26 one- and two-bedroom villas – referred to as ‘houses’ and ‘residences’ – 15 are right on the beach and 11 are on stilts over the lagoon. Each is bright and airy, making good use of the plentiful natural light and a tropical-style interior design, with a hint of boho chic whimsy and mostly custom-built furnishings. The specification given was simple: “make it look like it could be someone’s home, and better.”

Everything at your convenience

An important factor in making a resort which lives up to the high ambitions of its owner is the service. The Nautilus Maldives offers first-class treatment from the moment you hit the runway at Valana International Airport. After passing through customs and immigration in a VIP terminal, you move to The Nautilus’ private lounge before boarding a seaplane for a 35-minute flight to the island.

Once there, you have a choice of three restaurants and a poolside bar, all of which take an ‘unscripted dining’ approach. While you do get a menu, it’s meant more as a suggestion than a strict list of what is available. You can enjoy whatever you or the chef can dream up between you, whatever cuisine that may be. What’s more, you can have it whenever you’re hungry – there are no opening hours, no breakfast time and no dress code. Everything is at your convenience.

Never be bored or bothered

The same goes for activities and excursions. You can swim among whale sharks and manta rays in the world-famous Hanifaru Bay, or dive, snorkel, cruise by or paddle a transparent canoe over the coral reef right by the resort. You can go wherever you want, whenever you want, always with experienced experts and guides. Most of the equipment and services are complimentary, as are the daily yoga, meditation and fitness classes.

The Nautilus Maldives aims to remove any and all stress from your stay and provides every possible wellness initiative, from ancient techniques to modern technologies. There are four spa treatment rooms in the centre of the island, offering customised wellness programmes and daily rituals to remove any worry and stiffness.

Room rates start at US$1,967 for two in a Beach House with pool, on a bed and breakfast basis. For more information, go to thenautilusmaldives.com
