The Indian government has relaxed the rules for tourists visiting the beautiful Andaman and Nicobar Islands, making it easier for Superyacht owners to explore the archipelago.
Before the change, tourists were required to register with the Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) in the area within 24 hours of arriving. However, following a government push to attract overseas visitors, this requirement has now been relaxed. Visitors arriving by cruise ship or on flights from mainland India will now not be required to register themselves.
In June, the government removed the requirement for visitors from most countries to obtain a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) before visiting 29 inhabited and 11 uninhabited islands among the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The result is that guests and crews from Superyachts need only have a normal tourist visa to access this beautiful area towards the eastern edge of the Indian Ocean.
Superyacht owners travelling on an e-Visa will need to make a stop at one of five designated seaports or 26 airports before they can sail for the islands. The seaports specified are Cochin, Goa, Mangalore, Mumbai and Chennai.
