The 2018 Australian Superyacht Rendezvous, which took place at the Gold Coast City Marina (GCCM) on 20-21 April 2018, has just drawn to a very successful close.
Held at the 5 Gold Anchor certified GCCM, located along Australia’s wealthy coastal playground in southeast Queensland- the exclusive event hosted 26 of Australia’s largest domestically registered yachts and Superyachts. With lengths from 30 – 50 metres, these may not rate amongst the largest in comparison to their Med based counterparts, but they do give a clear insight on how the Australian Superyacht industry can grow in the coming years.
The ASR showcased two full days of industry networking and parties both on and off the yachts, as well as giving the attendees a chance to see the world-class facilities that the Gold Coast City Marina has to offer. The rendezvous also hosted an open round-table conversation between 160 of the region’s Captains, government officials, Superyacht owners & managers, marina operators and other stakeholders. Key issues such as import taxation and class issues were all laid open for discussion, taking place in a boisterous yet professional manner – giving it a true Aussie flavour!
Being the second event of its kind, and having grown twice in size from last year, we are now witnessing the coming of age of the Superyacht Industry in Australia – and the economic benefits this will bring with it.
To see the amazing effort and collaboration undertaken in order to bring all these yachts together, was fantastic and impressive – an event which should now earn its place among the global Superyacht industry.
